About the Project

Purpose Capital is working with the Right Honorable Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy for Global Education, and Sarah Brown, Chair of the Global Business Coalition for Education) to design and launch the Global Education Platform (GEP). Based on a careful analysis of the needs of potential students, educators and employers around the world, the GEP is seeking to leverage the potential of online education and emerging technologies to improve access to education for those who need it most.

In 2013, Purpose Capital designed and co-hosted an of the event in London with the Office of UN Special Envoy for Global Education, convening 30 CEOs, technology entrepreneurs and academics working in online education and Internet Communications Technology (ICT) to explore the feasibility and way forward for such an initiative. The purpose of the two-day meeting was to discuss how to best develop the GEP while forging a consensus regarding the necessity, logistics, financing, and delivery models for its development.

Since the first meeting in London, Purpose Capital managed a consortium of industry leaders to devise a strategy for the launch of the initiative. This phase of the work culminated in the authoring a report and presentation to frame the future of the initiative at the subsequent meeting during the 2014 United Nations General Assembly in New York. The report, “Towards a Global Education Platform: Potential Models for Harnessing Technology to Promote Education as a Global Public Good.” is publicly available.
